INFORMATION ON GRANTS AND LOANS
Overview
| Home Mission and Advancement Committee (HMAC) can offer
various types of grants and loans, or support referrals to other
funds. HMAC oversees the disbursement of grants and loans from within
its own budget and from two independent funds, for members of CYM
(and, in exceptional cases, attenders). Applications are normally
reviewed at the next scheduled HMAC meeting. However, applications
may be fast-tracked when time constraints dictated by circumstances
outside the applicant's control require a decision before the next
HMAC meeting.
Friends may be awarded an educational grant or loan only once in
any three-year period. A combination grant and loan may be awarded.
A Friend may only receive the Pendle Hill Scholarship once.
We have chosen to interpret "education" in a fairly broad sense.
Examples include attendance at the FGC Gathering; and a theatre
workshop (Britain Yearly Meeting).

Loans are interest-free. A loan repayment schedule is drawn up, tailored
to the ability of the individual to repay. A repayment period of up to
three years is the norm. Friends struggling with repayment obligations
may apply to the HMAC Grants and Loans Officer to restructure their repayment schedule.
Grants and loans are only available to Members and attenders within Canadian
Yearly Meeting. Applications to any of these funds must be accompanied
by a Minute of Support from the applicant's Monthly Meeting. Friends receiving
grants/loans from HMAC are expected to submit a report of their education
experience, with possible publication in The Canadian Friend.
Funds under management
of HMAC:
Quaker Studies Fund
This independent fund, managed by HMAC, is intended
for Quaker education at a Quaker institution. A Quaker event or conference
(e.g. Friends General Conference gathering) may also be considered. Awards
from this fund do not exceed $1,000. Pendle
Hill Scholarship Fund

Funds under management
of CYM Trustees
Sarah E. Richardson Fund
This fund, overseen by the CYM Trustees, is intended
to support Friends travelling in the ministry in Canada.
Joseph P. Rogers Fund
This fund, originally intended to "aid aged ministers"
is now interpreted as providing assistance to members of the Society of
Friends who have rendered long and useful service to the Society.
Albert S. Rogers Fund
The purpose of this fund is undesignated and Trustees
may make disbursements as appropriate. Trustees are prepared to consider
awarding grants for new concerns from this fund.
Application Procedures
- Obtain a copy of CYM's "Grant or Loan Application" form from your
Monthly Meeting, the CYM Office, or print it off this web page.
- Documentation must be complete before review can take place.
- Applications will be reviewed at the next HMAC meeting. HMAC meets
in spring and fall. Applications should

Monthly Meeting and the Society of Friends
- past loan repayment performance
- relevance in relation to the applicant's current or potential

- An individual who has already received a grant or loan from the Quaker
Studies Fund will not be eligible
for a further award for a minimum of three years. An individual may

the application, and are tailored to the recipient's situation. We request
that loans be repaid within three years.
- Grant recipients will be issued a T4 slip at year end.
- Friends who receive grants, loans or the Pendle Hill Scholarship are
expected to write a brief account of their experience to HMAC for possible
