Faith and Practice for Information about the Project TO: MM'S, WG'S, CYM CTTEES, INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS FROM: FAITH AND PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT COMMMITTEE Dear Friends, Since the union of the three former Canadian yearly meetings in 1955, we have adopted and used Christian Faith and Practice of London Yearly Meeting (1959). This has been much used and loved by Canadian Friends. However, as the new Quaker Faith and Practice of Britain YM (1995) incorporates practices which differ from those in CYM, and also because we want material which represents our unique CYM experience, YM has recognized that the time has come to do this work. We aim for a Faith and Practice comprehensive enough to "stand-alone" and not be dependent on the discipline of other Yearly Meetings. This challenging process was approved at CYM Aug. 2000 (see Minute). A Faith and Practice Development Committee was set up with the following members: (List here alphabetically). The Faith and Practice Development Committee (henceforth called F & P DC), is an editorial and coordinating committee. We call on all of you to work either as a group or individually to identify appropriate quotations. Some of the sources for Canadian material are Canadian Friend, Canadian Quaker Pamphlets, Quaker Concern, the newsletter of the Canadian Friends Historical Association, Minutes of CYM as well as monthly and committee meetings (including excerpts from CYM Minutes already Published as CQP No. 40). We may have more material than can be used in one volume. After the final draft has been presented to and approved by CYM, all of the material submitted to the F & P DC will be deposited in the CYM archives as a continuing resource. The overall organization of the final volume has not yet been determined, but we are clear that this subject will be an important part of it. A working outline is in the Documents in Advance 2000 pp 61-64, and is also included with this mailing. A submission form can be printed out - photocopy as many as you need. Or you can use our on-line submission form. Details of the length of quotation and citations needed are on the form. For those working as a group, the form to keep track of who has done what may be helpful. In terms of editorial policy in language, this committee has adopted as our working policy that of the paragraph from Quaker Faith and Practice (Britain Yearly Meeting 1995):
